Filter Coffee...!!

Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu is a boring place. I had been to Chennai in the 80s and many times, in the recent past. It is the same, as it was in the 80s, trust me. Most of the streets have definitely  been widened and there are many malls now, but majority of the streets have signboards only in Tamil, not even English, which is supposed to be their favorite language. Hence, it is next to impossible to know, where the hell you are standing, unless, you have a Google map with you. You talk to anyone, the reply would  be either a nought or a few mumbles in Tamil. Who says, they know and love English and a majority speak English? Yes, may be 2- 5 %. Nobody would try to help you to reach your destination. Their world seems to be Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi, MGR and of course, Rajni kanth. Most of the cultural programmes are very traditional and of very old style. They still love their Kanjivarams, gold jewellery and Hawai slippers ! The worst, is their dress sense, they almost look as if they are stepping out of time machine stuck at the 70s. They have that past look, may be good, if you love vintage and love to connect to your past. Sorry to say, but there are modern people too in Chennai, rather ultra modern, but they comprise only five to ten percent.  If I don't mention about their obsession with Dosa, Idli, Sambaar, Coconut, Coconut oil and most importantly their filter coffee, I would be committing a crime. And yes, the weather is equally wonderful here, summer lasts for all the  twelve months in a year and the sultry, humid climate will make you sweat out in your sweet Chennai, perennially. Jeevan mein ek baar jana Chennai,  magar sirf ek baar; good luck friends!
