Lo aaj main kahta hun...

Dear Sridevi, Lo aaj main kahta hun...India loves you...!!
We Indians regard you as the first female superstar. Sridevi was a complete show stealer in all her movies. Mr.India was described as one of the most iconic films of its time, famously joked that the film should have been named Miss India. Sridevi's imitation of Charlie Chaplin in the film was described by the as the most hilarious act she has ever done. Her mobile face expressions could give Jim Carrey sleepless nights. Her biggest plus point was her ability to be completely uninhibited in front of the camera. The song Kaate Nahi Kat Te was chosen as the most famous rain song in Bollywood till date. A decade into her entry in Hindi films Sridevi had two of her biggest hits, Mr India (1987) and Chaalbaaz (1989), both films changing her destiny. In Chandni, Sridevi reinvented herself in her more urbane classy avatar, not to forget Chandni O Meri Chandni song which she sang in her own voice. Nobody can forget her mannerisms, body language, hair or make-up. It hurts to hear that Sridevi had died. We would miss you dear Sridevi forever. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Battle of Longewala...

The Battle of Longewala (4–7 December 1971) was one of the first major engagements in the western sector during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, fought between assaulting Pakistani forces and Indian defenders at the Indian border post of Longewala, in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan state in India. Border is a 1997 Indian war film based on the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, produced and directed by J. P. Dutta. The film starred an ensemble cast of Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles. The film is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The main criticism of the movie was that it showed Indian forces being in a terrible position before any sort of help came from the Indian Air Force.
Although massively outnumbering the Indian defenders, and having surrounded them, the Pakistani troops were unable to advance over open terrain under small arms and mortar fire from the outpost. This encouraged the Indians not to give up their strong defensive position, frustrating the Pakistani commanders. In the morning the Indian Air Force was able to direct some HF-24 Maruts and Hawker Hunter aircraft to assist the post. The Indian aircraft attacked the Pakistani ground troops with the 16 Matra T-10 rockets and 30 mm cannon fire on each aircraft. Without support from the Pakistan Air Force, which was busy elsewhere, the tanks and other armoured vehicles were easy targets for the IAF's Hunters. The range of the 12.7 mm anti-aircraft heavy machine guns mounted on the tanks was limited and therefore ineffective against the Indian jets. Indian air attacks were made easier by the nature of the barren terrain. By noon the next day, the assault ended completely, having cost Pakistan 22 tanks claimed destroyed by aircraft fire, 12 by ground anti-tank fire, and some captured after being abandoned, with a total of 100 vehicles claimed to have been destroyed or damaged in the desert around the post. Longewala had proved to be one of the defining moments in the war. Let me introduce you to the real life hero on whose life Jackie Shroff enacted, he is none other than our very own Vir Chakra recipient ( 1972 ) Gp Capt DK Dass who's a member of RSI Secunderabad and who lives with us in Secunderabad. Smile...

The first thing I look for when I get up in the morning is a smiling face. Smiling face boosts your mood, make you feel healthier and feel better. Looking at a smile, you smile in a reflex manner. BTW, the act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness. The feel good neurotransmitters dopamine, endorphins and serotonin are all released when a smile flashes across your face. Smiling, laughing, and positive thinking have been shown to have a huge number of health benefits to both mind and body. Stress has been linked to a number of health problems, including heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Check out these benefits of turning that frown upside down...Smiling relaxes your body and it can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Even fake smiles do the trick. While some researchers insist the benefits of smiling can only be rendered from a genuine expression of happiness, others have found that a forced smile can still make you feel happy, even when your existing mood and surroundings suggest otherwise. Smiling has numerous social, psychological and health benefits. I am sure, after reading my article, you must be smiling right now. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Prince Charles & Valentine's Day...

I met Prince Charles on 14 February 1991 at British Council Library situated in Kasturba Road, Bangalore. I was reading Wylie Churchill-Davidson's A Practice of Anesthesia at that time sitting in the library. Those days I was working as PG trainee in Anaesthesiology at Command Hospital, Air Force, Bangalore located in Airport Road. I never had any textbooks bought and I always depended on Library books for reference and managed my MBBS and Post Graduation by borrowing books from the library. Those days, medical books were expensive and there were no Ebooks for free download. Suddenly, there was a huge commotion in the library and I was wondering what might have happened suddenly in the British Library. I noticed, Prince Charles surrounded with girls and ladies in the library. Prince Charles had paid surprise visit to the British Library. When I approached him to greet him, I heard few girls saying " Happy Valentine's Day "...it was Greek to me. Those days, hardly anyone knew about Valentine's Day. As of now, the whole world knows what is Valentine's Day...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

48 hours in a day...

Many people have asked me, how do I manage my time and do so many things in a day. Frankly, everyone has got the same 24 hours in a day, it depends on how you use that 24 hours in accomplishing your objectives as per your priority. I try to squeeze out as many hours as possible without simply wasting it away. I begin each day with a clear plan of my activities before the day is over.I plan and start my next project immediately after my previous one just as challenging and exciting as my previous one. I use my time wisely and try my best to work effectively. I never miss to attend seminars, lectures and conferences. Everyday I must listen to BBC and must attend my Gym workout without fail if I am not playing Tennis on that day. I never miss watching a new movie and at the same time, I spend extra few hours to work productively. Sometimes, I actually feel that I do have 48 hours everyday. Jazba & Junoon

I was the only officer who could define the meaning of Jazba and Junoon when the topic of passion was being discussed by Lt Gen Hasnain at Saugor in early 2010. He was giving a lecture on leadership among officers when he visited Saugor as GOC 21 Corps. I don't know whether my explanation convinced him but he definitely spoke more about Jazba and junoon during the tea break exclusively with me. During the lecture, when the audience was asked to explain passion, I told the audience that Jazba is simple passion and desire but Junoon is much more than passion ...it is a bit of madness, but that's what is desired to be a winner and a successful leader. Well, I don't know whether the General accepted my theory or not but yes, I was permitted to have a cup of tea with him during the tea break after his lecture. I still believe strongly that If you really want to achieve something, you need to have a bit of madness to achieve it, not just passion ðŸ˜Š...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Feeling like 26 at 62

Regular gym workout can make you look and feel younger. Exercise is important at all ages, but it can be especially helpful once you grow older. Getting adequate sleep is the simplest way to feel younger. Good sleep definitely builds a more vibrant body and brain. Laugh, have fun, participate in activities which you enjoy the most. I try to stress less and lighten up as frequently as possible by watching my favorite movies and singing my favorite songs. Stress can create more wrinkles and general wear on our skin. I give myself a break often by attending as many Anaesthesia conferences as possible at different corners of India. Feeling like 26 at 62 is not a magic but an attitude towards life. Stop feeling “old” and stop talking about the process of aging and how it got you feeling down about yourself...and Just Join A Gym...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.
