Solitary Reaper...William Wordsworth

Behold her, single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain;
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.

No Nightingale did ever chaunt
More welcome notes to weary bands
Of travellers in some shady haunt,
Among Arabian sands:
A voice so thrilling ne'er was heard
In spring-time from the Cuckoo-bird,
Breaking the silence of the seas
Among the farthest Hebrides.

Will no one tell me what she sings?--
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago:
Or is it some more humble lay,
Familiar matter of to-day?
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
That has been, and may be again?

Whate'er the theme, the Maiden sang
As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o'er the sickle bending;--
I listened, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more.

प्यारे पापा...Dear Dad...

how can age ever sit on you harshly ?.

Great writers can be detected in one simple sentence ...you don't have to read their entire book...!!

When your heart is young .... your thoughts innocent ... when poetry flows in your veins .... when you have songs on your lips .... and dreams in your eyes .... how can age ever sit on you harshly ?...Archna Pant

Test your Pronunciation...

The Chaos
by G. Nolst Trenite' a.k.a. "Charivarius" 1870 - 1946

Dearest creature in creation
Studying English pronunciation,
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse and worse
I will keep you, Susy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye your dress you'll tear,
So shall I! Oh, hear my prayer,
Pray, console your loving poet,
Make my coat look new, dear, sew it!
Just compare heart, beard and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written).
Made has not the sound of bade,
Say said, pay-paid, laid, but plaid.
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as vague and ague,
But be careful how you speak,
Say break, steak, but bleak and streak.
Previous, precious, fuchsia, via,
Pipe, snipe, recipe and choir,
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, shoe, poem, toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery:
Daughter, laughter and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles.
Exiles, similes, reviles.
Wholly, holly, signal, signing.
Thames, examining, combining
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war, and far.
From "desire": desirable--admirable from "admire."
Lumber, plumber, bier, but brier.
Chatham, brougham, renown, but known.
Knowledge, done, but gone and tone,
One, anemone. Balmoral.
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel,
Gertrude, German, wind, and mind.
Scene, Melpomene, mankind,
Tortoise, turquoise, chamois-leather,
Reading, reading, heathen, heather.
This phonetic labyrinth
Gives moss, gross, brook, brooch, ninth, plinth.
Billet does not end like ballet;
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet;
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Banquet is not nearly parquet,
Which is said to rime with "darky."
Viscous, Viscount, load, and broad.
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's O.K.,
When you say correctly: croquet.
Rounded, wounded, grieve, and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive, and live,
Liberty, library, heave, and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven,
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the difference, moreover,
Between mover, plover, Dover,
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police, and lice.
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label,
Petal, penal, and canal,
Wait, surmise, plait, promise, pal.
Suit, suite, ruin, circuit, conduit,
Rime with "shirk it" and "beyond it."
But it is not hard to tell,
Why it's pall, mall, but Pall Mall.
Muscle, muscular, gaol, iron,
Timber, climber, bullion, lion,
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, and chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor,
Ivy, privy, famous, clamour
And enamour rime with hammer.
Pussy, hussy, and possess,
Desert, but dessert, address.
Golf, wolf, countenance, lieutenants.
Hoist, in lieu of flags, left pennants.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rime with anger.
Neither does devour with clangour.
Soul, but foul and gaunt but aunt.
Font, front, won't, want, grand, and grant.
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say: finger.
And then: singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, age.
Query does not rime with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post; and doth, cloth, loth;
Job, Job; blossom, bosom, oath.
Though the difference seems little,
We say actual, but victual.
Seat, sweat; chaste, caste.; Leigh, eight, height;
Put, nut; granite, and unite.
Reefer does not rime with deafer,
Feoffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Dull, bull, Geoffrey, George, ate, late,
Hint, pint, Senate, but sedate.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific,
Tour, but our and succour, four,
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, guinea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria,
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean,
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion with battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, key, quay.
Say aver, but ever, fever.
Neither, leisure, skein, receiver.
Never guess--it is not safe:
We say calves, valves, half, but Ralph.
Heron, granary, canary,
Crevice and device, and eyrie,
Face but preface, but efface,
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust, and scour, but scourging,
Ear but earn, and wear and bear
Do not rime with here, but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew, Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, clerk, and jerk,
Asp, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation--think of psyche--!
Is a paling, stout and spikey,
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing "groats" and saying "grits"?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel,
Strewn with stones, like rowlock, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict, and indict!
Don't you think so, reader, rather,
Saying lather, bather, father?
Finally: which rimes with "enough"
Though, through, plough, cough, hough, or tough?
Hiccough has the sound of "cup."
My advice is--give it up!

going abroad...??

I am a bit laid-back person
I rarely visit new places
I am so contented with my own city
and my own life
I never had the desire to go abroad
But things have changed now
my views also have changed
I got my passport made
and the reason for all these changes
is Dr Barnali Bhattacharya
and her updates on various beautiful locations
and foreign locales...

If you miss enjoying the early mornings of summers
and lovely afternoons of winters
it's a crime..!!

Sunday tidbits...

I used to find spending time on treadmill
most boring in the Gym
nowadays, I do some jogging in the morning
and weight training in the evening at the Gym...

Be wary of people
who address you
as Behana ( sister )
initially..
but soon start calling you as Yaara
and start reminding you of
how protective and
possessive they are
about you....

It is very easy to detect
fake people on Facebook..
firstly, they may have multiple accounts
secondly, they may never post their real profile picture
they would always prefer proxy pictures
thirdly, they deactivate and reactivate
their accounts frequently
and lastly,
they would rarely be commenting on your wall
they would always prefer to chat inbox...

Good morning
Coffee chalega...??

Best possible song for ramp walks...for girls...and ladies...

Aayi main to aayi
Nazaaron ke anjaane ek jahaan se
Laayi main to laayi baharon ke afsane
Bhi wahaa se

Na na mujhe chuu na na duur hi rehna
Pari hoon main

Aye koyi mere pannhao mein le jaaye
Yeh nazaare
Dekhe koi mere nighao mein
Pehchaane yeh ishaare

Na na mujhe chu na na duur hi rehna
Pari hoon main

Pari hoon main
Mujhe naa chuuna
Pari hoon main

Phoolon mein jo noor hai
Mera hi suroor hai ho ho…
Aankhon mein guroor hai
Khwabon ka kusoor hai…

Thoda sa karaar hai
Thoda sa khumaar hai ho ho…
Kiska intezaar hai
Kaisa intezaar hai…

Koi to aisa ho
Saanson ko meri mehka jaaye

Ayi mein to ayi
Nazaaro ke anjaane ek jahaa se
Layi mein to layi baharon ke afsane
Bhi wahaa se

Na na mujhe chuu na duur hi rehna
Pari hoon main
Pari hoon main
Mujhe na chuuna
Pari hoon main

Dheemi dheemi dhadkane
Meethi meethi uljhane o ho…
Jo bhi mere paas hai mere liye khaas hai…
Dekho meri arzoo
Baithi meri rubaroo
kaisi meri justajoo
Bikhri hai char soo…
Koi to aisa ho
aake jo mera dil le jaaye

Ayi mein to ayi
Nazaaro ke anjaane ek jahaa se
Layi mein to layi baharon ke afsane
Bhi wahaa se

Na na mujhe chu na na duur hi rehna
Pari hoon main
Pari hoon main
Mujhe naa chuuna
Pari hoon main

Pushp ki abhilasha with my English translation...

Pushp ki abhilasha...
Chah Nahin Mai SurBala Ke
Gehnon Mein Guntha Jaaon
Chah Nahin Premi Mala Mein
Bindh, Pyari Ko Lalchaon
Chah Nahin Samraton Ke
Shav Par, He Hari Dala Jaaon
Chah Nahin Devon Ke Sar Par
Chadhon, Bhagya Par Itraoon
Mujhey Tod Lena Banmali,
Us Path Par Tum Dena Phaink
Matra Bhoomi Per Sheesh Chadhaney,
Jis Path Jaayen Veer Anek....Makhanlal Chaturvedi...
English translation by .Pendyala Pradeep...
Longings of a flower
I don't desire to be part of maiden's jewellery
I don't desire to be in the garland of young lovers
luring them with my charm
I don't desire to be placed on the mortal remains of monarchs
I don't desire to be placed as the crown of Gods
and take pride in my luck
rather, I would request the gardener to pluck me
and strew me on the path
which would be trodden on by the brave soldiers
on their way to sacrifice themselves for my country...PP.

when I subscribed to 12-15 magazines per month
I don't subscribe to any magazine now
but I am better informed these days
thanks to the Net.

My posts are always original
never ever inspired

I write my posts after some contemplation
I would be happiest
if you write one line ( or more ) comment

Life is strange
and so is attitude of people
We try to make friends
who doesn't care about us
and we try to run after
who never find us attractive...

Men will be Men...
All men are incorrigible flirts...
trust me...ha ha

Very few are elegant...
gracious with refined manners...
with charm, attitude and confidence
with lot of energy and pizzazz...

Very few people really understand you in this world...

If one cannot enjoy watching a movie over and over again
I think, the movie was not good...

nonconformist...

since my childhood, I had been a nonconformist...
I never followed opinions and lifestyles of others
I always had my own opinion
that made me a bit controversial...
but interestingly, I always proved others wrong
in the long run...
I still have tremendous faith in friendship and truthfulness...
and I never forget people...ever...

trust...

The best compliment you could ever give me
is by trusting me....
have a great day Friends...!!

My fantasy world...

Since my childhood I loved my fantasy world
Facebook is another fantasy world...
You get hurt very often in real life
Facebook is no better, but it's not bad
You are prone to depression
both in real life and fantasy
but Facebook is better in saving you from depression
it is always better to interact with real people
you can write better poems and stories if you enjoy fantasy
reading fantasy books, watching movies may be good rather than being bad
Live your fantasies...in real life
and strike a balance, if possible...
Have a great weekend friends...

Delete the word...

Delete the word " loser " from your dictionary...

Brains vs beauty...

They say, it is very important to be pretty
I say, it is important to have brains
but beauty has its own advantages
you just can't deny...
have a great day Friends...

Gangtok...

Many years ago,
I lived in Gangtok...
I used to find everyone there very cheerful
at times, they came to me for treatment for lacerations
I could suture their wounds many a time without local Anaesthesia
and all through they kept smiling
they had implicit faith in me and my treatment
and yes, I could never forget the natural
rose hue on their cheeks
I could never find even a single girl
who was not beautiful
I could never find a single person there
who was not polite, truthful, simple, innocent and cheerful
and yes, they could really dance and sing well
without any training
it comes naturally to them...

Monday 5 May 2014

Dear...God...!!

God has not made everyone beautiful
there must be a reason
He always compensates for lack of looks
with skills and talents
He also made few real genius
to be leaders in this world
He gave some parents moronic children
but also gave them immense tolerance & patience
God has made a few to be stinking rich
and few paupers to be buried in unmarked grave
He has blessed few with brave & beautiful children
and made few to remain infertile
He made few countries prosperous and affluent
and few to face war, drought and famine
But my only prayer to Him
It's better an ugly face than an ugly mind...!!

Punjabi People...

I have lived in every corner of India...
in almost all the states of India...

I found Punjabi people are the happiest
and most friendly
always smiling
always happy
I will give you one example
Just before leaving Ferozpur..
I gave my Tennis..racket for repair
since those days it couldn't be done at Ferozpur..
the racquet was sent to Jallandhar for the required repairs
by the sports shop owner...
I kept visiting his shop till the last day of my stay at Ferozpur...
shop keeper a Punjabi, told me it was yet to be received back from Jallandhar...
I told him, I was leaving the station that night...
but before the Punjab Mail left the station
I was pleasantly surprised by a smiling Sardar...
standing at the station with my repaired Racket...!!
