Treatment for Vandalism...!!

Vandalism incidence in Global Hospital is nothing new to medical fraternity...such incidence are bound to happen again. When you are dealing with high risk cases day and night, doctors are bound to face mishaps, occasional misjudgment and bad outcomes. Condemning the act and demanding for justice are the usual reactions till one more incidence occurs again. Let me suggest you a simple solution and more practical approach for the entire scenario where doctors can work without stress of being handled violently and bringing out their best medical skills for the betterment of the patient. There should be a QRT department ( Quick Reaction Team department ) in each hospital whose only job is to take care of such eventuality. It should consist of brainy guys who are adept in conversation, and knowing how to convince the relatives of the deceased and the department should consist of armed bouncers who would use their muscle power and brawny built to control the mob and also use the arms if necessary...if they have Arms Licence...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

How to spend money...

Everyone tells you how to save money...but let me tell you how to spend money intelligently. I am sure, you have worked very hard to earn money...it's time to know how to spend our hard earned money for our happiness. I always wait for sales and discounts and definitely online purchases from trustworthy shopping sites. I avoid impulse purchases, and never miss buying myself small treats. Spending huge money on marriages are biggest mistakes...spending money on your romantic partner, children and for your fitness and your career advancement are most welcome. Spending money on traveling to new places and on personal fulfillment is very wise. Investing in ourselves today is just as important as growing our wealth...let's buy something which makes us happy right now, let us live for today...and enjoy the most precious life...just for today...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Enjaai my best song Just recorded... Happy Sunday

Respect each other's religion...!!

I rarely miss the midnight mass of 24 December. My son was born on Christmas and my two nephews were born on 24 December. We celebrate Christmas more than any Christians with Christmas tree, stockings and Christmas Star. I lived in Vishakhapatnam for eleven years during my college days and my best friend those days was Mr Yusuf Khan, who met me incidentally when I was rehearsing a song in an Orchestra at Jamshedpur many decades ago. When Yusuf Khan started his own orchestra I was included and I used to perform for few years in Commercial Orchestra but later had to stop it due to family pressure who never liked it. Yusuf used to start his Eid always with me. Incidentally, I was very close to Gurmeet Singh my classmate in intermediate those days and I used to sleep in the Gurudwara those days which was located opposite to Police Barracks near Choultry, Vizag. Till date, I can recite entire Japji Saheb without any reference. If all of us start respecting other religions our world can easily become a real heaven but the politicians make sure this never happens...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

You are the Best...

Let people say or think whatever they want about you, the only thing that matters is how you feel about yourself, how you think about yourself. I consider it to be irrelevant..the things people talk about me...my only concern is what I talk to myself. If you don't value yourself, it actually shows on your face, your walk, your attitude and your body language. Always think highly of yourself...give yourself full marks in everything you do. Unless you respect yourself and value yourself, nobody would care about you, trust me. It's strange but true, we tend to fulfill only our own expectations about ourself. The thoughts you have about yourself all the time in your mind, can destroy you or empower you to be unstoppable. There's no point thinking that you're perfect because nobody can be perfect, but there's no harm in thinking yourself to be the best. Let people say or think whatever they want, but you must never underestimate yourself and keep dreaming to win this world because you are the best. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Attitude...aptitude...!!

Although aptitude is important, I always give more importance to attitude of the person. An aptitude for something is the innate potential to acquire a skill with practice and developing it and attitude is a set of beliefs and opinions about anything. Negative attitude could be dangerous but yes, positive attitude in one's own beliefs is most desirable. A positive attitude helps us cope more easily with our daily affairs of life. It brings optimism into our life, and makes iteasier to avoid worries, helps us solve our problems and avoid negative thinking. Positive thinking helps us with stress management and can even improve our health. I strongly believe that a positive attitude is far better than a high skill level, in almost every situation. Technical aptitude alone is insufficient... although aptitude may give us success to some extent, our attitude determines what and how much we can do, and how far we will go in the path of success and achievement. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Books Vs Internet...!!

Although, I love reading a book, internet is better than reading a book. I can easily prove that. I am sure, most of you would love to say that books are more logical choice compared to internet. Most of you would argue that the Internet will never replace books...sorry friends, you may be wrong. I am sure, most of you would like to know an answer to your doubt on a particular subject or topic almost everyday...the more you read, the more you have questions in your mind. While a book may demand you to read all of its content to seek your answer, whereas the Internet might give it to you in seconds, that too the latest version. Most of the books are expensive and gives you old version of information and answers to your query which might have changed altogether by the time you seek to know the answers. Internet saves time, money and gives the answers to your queries within seconds without beating around the bush. Books are definitely a good source of information but they may need to be updated otherwise, it is of no use. I am sorry to say that things are changing at alarming speed and books are unable to keep pace with that speed, whereas, internet gives you the latest information. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Thank God...

Strange but true, intelligent people are always unhappy people. Intelligent people tend to over analyze everything around them. Many people with a high IQ suffer from psychological problems...they constantly keep reflecting on life, death and the meaning of their existence. They crave for something excellent, idealistic and perfect which they never find in the real world. When their expectations face the actual reality of life, it may lead to disappointment and depression...they want high standards in almost everything which is almost impossible to find in real life....that makes them lonely and depressed and occasionally they fail to interact and communicate well with average intelligent people. Interestingly, ignorant people are very happy people...ignorance is bliss for them...God loves his idiots more than the intelligent ...thank God, I am not very intelligent  Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Every twenty five seconds...

One person dies in this world every twenty five seconds due to road traffic accidents...Every minute of each day, someone dies in a car or bike accident. ...after heart disease and cancer, the leading cause of death is road accidents. Incidentally, majority of deaths in India is due to horrible condition of our roads...over speeding comes next...and next comes alcohol and drugs while driving. In our country, two wheeler accidents account for 25% of total road crash deaths. and 20 children under the age of 14 die every day due to road crashes and yes, there is no statistics available for traffic rules offenders in our country...I think, every third person in India is habitual traffic offender. Friends, keep your eyes on the road while driving, you should be doing nothing else while driving, follow speed limits and never drink and drive and yes, helmet saves lives. BTW, many must have died by road accidents by the time you finish reading this blog... Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Carpe diem...

Latin phrase Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero meaning seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the future. Frankly, since the day, I started living with the motto of carpe diem...seize the day or moment without thinking much about my future, I became the happiest person in the world. The earliest known uses of carpe diem in print in English date to the early 19th century. Robert Frost took on the subject with his poem Carpe Diem, first published in 1938...you can incidentally find it in my voice on my YouTube. When I see people in a serious mood and also worrying a lot about their future, I always advise them to just live for the day without planning much for tomorrow, I consider it to be the easiest solution to most of our problems. BTW, it also means to make the most of the opportunities of our life. Let's begin to live carpe diem, and start noticing the extraordinary things around us right now and see how we feel about our life with those lovely things around us. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Positive frame of mind...

Positive frame of mind is a must for our growth, expansion and success...It means appreciating almost everything around us regardless of our circumstances...e.g. the college or office, where we work, house and the neighborhood where we live, our looks, our health, our intelligence and also our detractors. State of mind is the mood we are in at a particular time...I love to be in a great mood all the time. Life becomes a great fun when we apply a positive mind frame than a negative. The physical and mental benefits of positive frame of mind are countless...name a thing, it's there. Despite all this knowledge, we tend to fall prey to negative thinking...next time, when you fall in negative mood think of me...I have many issues but I make sure, my day is wonderfully spent and and I also make sure, all my friends and relatives get into the same positive mood within seconds of meeting me or knowing me...Friends, enjoy every minute of your life...'cause, Zindagee Na Milegee Dubara...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Wanna be an Entrepreneur...??

Frankly, I am not an entrepreneur but I really know how to be a successful entrepreneur. Starting a business means taking great amount of risks...and I always appreciate people who can take risks in life. BTW, risk takers are rarely afraid of failures. Moreover, a self-starter entrepreneur are very desirable people. Self-discipline is a must for success in life and also in a business. Creative thinking and innovative ideas are the hallmarks of successful entrepreneurs. Successful entrepreneurs actually think for the society than themselves...they believe in themselves and have a clarity of vision...they can know and find the needs of the society much earlier than others...they are always competitive and open minded. And yes, they have the ability to learn from their own mistakes...not others. Lastly, to become an successful entrepreneur we need to know about current and past market situation of that market. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Cash back...

Cash back policy was recently introduced by the moguls of business...but such policy was in vogue since time immemorial... good deed always had cash back policy since time immemorial...Good deed is always rewarded... One of the greatest things that we can do in our life is to reach out and do a good deed for another human being whether it means offering our love or compassion. A good deed is something which helps either one person or more or a society. But yes, we should not do good deeds only to get rewards...trust me, your goodness is always rewarded. I always insist on being good to ourselves, unless we are good to ourselves, how can we be good to others. Similarly, our kindness is always rewarded...when we do any kindness for another, it imprints on our hearts and we feel much happier and healthy. Let us make ourselves happier and healthy by being good to others...and enjoy the cash back policy. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Money, money, money...

Money causes happiness, but extra money definitely causes unhappiness. In the case of money, the unhappiness is caused by other reasons, not by the money itself. Money may get you house, food, medicine, vehicle, vacations...but money brings greed along with it without fail. That greed to make more money is the cause of all the problems in our life. Money gives us pleasure, money gives us happiness undoubtedly but having enough money to support ourselves, our family and living a comfortable retirement life is fine...but it never stops at that...in the game of earning and making more money greed comes from nowhere and our life becomes an endless chase of making more money at the cost of health, family and friends. We must not fall into the trap of making excess money which brings us nothing but unhappiness...excess money invariably causes stress.. as to the fear of losing it all ... RSI Army Club

I live next to a happening neighbourhood of RSI Secunderabad. RSI Secunderabad is a trendy, funky, hip, cool and a groovy place both for the young and the old. In fact, I bought a house next to RSI Secunderabad as I wanted to grow old watching movies at Rsi Army Club. I do have my breakfast and lunch at my place, but my dinner is always at Rsi Army Club without fail. It has all the facilities of any and every game...Tennis, badminton, Gym and countless kiosks selling anything and everything you want besides an army canteen. A retired army life doesn't mean a rocking chair and newspaper to me...I love a happening life...and Rsi Army Club gives me exactly that...I am seen at the Gym and the tennis court and in all the DJ nights and non stop functions throughout the year. Nothing can change the problems and pains of life but Rsi Army Club changes to a large extent. Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Multitasking...

Most of the anaesthesiologists are experts in multitasking...rather, it's a way of life. While giving anaesthesia, he constantly monitors the pulse oximeter, capnograph, blood pressure and the electrocardiogram. His monitors are almost like aircraft cockpit with multiple display screens which needs to be constantly monitored. He needs to think very fast and work with his hands as if he has four or more hands working in tandem. He chats with the patient before entering the operation theatre and also establishes contact with his patient in that short period so that the patient feels safe with him…by talking to the patient, the anaesthetist can create a feeling of trust and make him relax, and confident about his safety. During the last few decades, the risks associated with anesthetic care have been dramatically reduced due to development new monitors during anaesthesia. When you leave the hospital after successful surgery, don't forget to thank your anaesthesiologist for his vigilance, task performing and multitasking. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Mood ka problem...??

Is it a bit depressing day today...?? Are you not in a mood to work today...No, I am not saying anything about your Sunday, I am talking about your Monday or weekdays. Let me share with you how to beat lethargy to do anything productive and get things done even when you don't feel like working. Frankly, the truth is that motivation isn’t anything about productivity, it’s the failure to use your time in the way you actually want it to be used. You may be sitting, staring at the wall or dreading the thought of working ...the answer is simple, the hardest part is the initial lethargy ...just do it without much thinking...once you start, things tend to flow. Still not in your mood to work...? Easy, open your classmates Whatsapp, chat for few minutes with your close buddies...your mood would change instantaneously. BTW, If you’re constantly unhappy at your job and are constantly demotivated, then you need to change your place of working or your job at the earliest. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Stress...stress...stresssss...

Being a doctor, I know too very well that you should restrict intake of salt, sugar, oil and cholesterol in your diet after certain age for good health...but, more than anything else, you should avoid stress in your life. The easiest way to reduce stress is to exercise or play a game regularly for at least thirty minutes. Being stressed, you may fall sick more often and believe me you grow older much faster. When you feel stressed, listen to some music, watch a movie, have an ice cream or a chocolate and take a nap or breathe deeply....your stress would disappear within minutes. When you feel stressed, make a phone call to a friend and chat for ten to fifteen minutes, join a Whatsapp group and share your views or make friends on Facebook. Give yourself a break too often each day and do exactly what you love the most. Trust me you can easily stop getting older by avoiding stress. Who says, as the years advance, time flies faster...when you reduce your stress, you can actually have forty eight hours in each day as you grow older.... Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Hunger...

Celebrity kids rarely become celebs themselves...similarly, very few officers' children become successful officers...on the contrary, many JCOs/OR children become successful officers and also qualify for All India Institute of Medical Sciences and top IITs of India. Reason is simple, they have a desire to be successful and have a hunger to achieve outrageous results...they know their purpose, they have more focus and they want to prove themselves. That hunger would determine the winners in the long run. Celebrity children already have everything, they are born with a silver spoon...they are always in spotlight. Changing your life and achieving your goals is not a matter of ability, it’s a matter of your motivation...your hunger for success...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Battle of Longewala...

In the annals of Military History, Battle of Longewala would go down as one of the unique events, where the most significant part in totally thwarting designs of the enemy, was played by Air Power. The battle is a glorious chapter in the history of the Indian Air Force (IAF), where a small number of pilots and their Hunter aircraft not only blunted but also decimated a determined Pakistani Armour Thrust across the Thar Desert. One can be justifiably proud of the fact that IAF demonstrated, as to how effective use of Air Power could decisively change the course of the land war. That Longewala is a precursor to the Gulf War, is clear to any student of military history. The Longewala battle from the 1971 War with Pakistan is an iconic victory in recent Indian Military History. What should have been a thumping victory for a Pakistani armoured offensive in the Rajasthan sector was turned into a complete rout. All this by a force of no more than a company of Indian troops on the ground, four Hunter aircraft from the Indian Air Force and two light aircraft flown by Army AOP Pilots...The plausibility of an entire Pakistani tank regiment crossing the line of control and driving into Indian territory was not one that military strategists had been willing to entertain in their war games scenario. On the contrary, India’s brass hats had laboured over an extensive counter-offensive plan, according to which they were going to cross the line of control and go all the way up to Rahimyar Khan in Pakistan. That the opposite happened is well documented. That India snatched victory from the jaws of defeat is a story oft told. The badges of honour were distributed soon enough: the army picked up a Maha Vir Chakra and six Vir Chakras; the Indian Air Force, which targeted Pakistani tanks with deadly precision, earned its medals too, picking up an AVSM and 10 Vir Chakras.
Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, died yesterday on 17 Nov 2018 morning in a private hospital in Mohali. Chandpuri was the recipient of country’s second highest gallantry award, Mahavir Chakra (MVC) for defending the Longewala sector from Pakistani mechanised infantry. Chandpuri’s 120 men faced 2000 Pak soldiers and one armoured regiment courageously and halted the Pakistani infiltration in the Indian border post of Longewala.
You can see me in the attached picture with Group Captain DK Dass ( Flt Lt DK Dass...during battle of Longewala ) who inspired the role of Jacky shroff in the movie Border...
And the picture of Battle of Longewala Hero Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri who inspired Sunny Deol's role in 'Border' who passed away at 78...yesterday ( 17 Nov 2018 )... RIP dear sir...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Good mood...all the time...??

People always ask me how do I manage to be in good mood all the time. It is believed that the chemical responsible for you to feel happy is Dopamine...I think, I secrete a lot of dopamine all the time...BTW, whenever I am down... I go to watch a movie... listen to my favorite music on YouTube and go for a game of tennis. On almost everyday, I decide that I will have a great day ...after waking up, each day I know that I would have an amazing day, no matter what. I make sure, I supercharge my day...with my non stop reading, learning something new, very often googling to clear my doubts, and yes, record a new song on a daily basis. Evenings are reserved for tennis... I love to win and compete with the best, and I hate to lose a single game. I do have many issues with my health but I always count my blessings. Dear friends, exercise releases dopamine and serotonin, which are the hormones that make you happy...make sure, you exercise a lot each day. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Keep him alive...

It is important to keep the child in you alive...be foolish and harmless eccentric occasionally and silly and spontaneous occasionally. Laugh a lot like children do all the time.Take time out for yourself and pamper yourself. Don't worry about others opinion. Don't let that child in you die prematurely. As we grow up, we tend to become serious ...everyone is born creative, try to be creative all the time. Have you ever wondered why children look so happy all the time...because, they do whatever makes them happy. Keep a hobby alive and be creative just for the joy of it. The day you kill your inner child in you...is the day, you would kill your happiness forever. Don't forget, you are never too old to be a child again...happy children's day...Col Pradeep Pendyala, Anaesthesiologist.

Most attractive man in the world...??

Trust me, you can easily become the most attractive man in the world. No, I am not saying to look good, groom yourself. ...wear a smile on your face...increase your knowledge...be yourself, don't imitate others. ...etcetera ...etcetera. You don't have to be a very good looking...you needn't be very rich ...and you don't require to be vivacious, wacky and side splitting all the time. You need not have tremendous sense of humor to become most attractive man. You just need to make your lady feel pretty and enchanting. She should become hysterically funny in your company...and yes, make her feel loved all the time. Show interest in what she does...take note of little things...put her first always...provide emotional security...and yes, make her laugh, laugh and laugh...that's all. A dear friend wished me on Diwali with this greetings...May the light of your Swarovsky chandelier fall on all the dark corners in your Life, the sound of your Bose music system remove all the silence of your life, your Bentley drive you away from all the evils, your Gucci shoes help you walk the difficult steps in your life, & your Rolex watch always show you your good time ...a very happy Diwali !!
Have you ever thought, whether material possessions result in true happiness
or not. To some extent, material things are essential for basic happy survival in our modern life but it should not be extravagant. Money, wealth, jewelry, and housing are a part of basic necessity for our daily living. Money definitely gives us comfort, convenience and well-being...money may or may not bring happiness in life, but the lack of money will certainly bring unhappiness and misery. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Money...Money...Money....

Who doesn't want wealth and money. On Dhanteras, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, is worshiped in the evening. Money definitely means more confidence. More money means more power. Some people definitely feel like failures when there is lack of money. Usually, as the income grows, the sense of achievement also grows. Money plays a big role in our lives… many things need money…bills payment, our desires and a better life style. Money changes our personality. If we are truly kind, we may remain kind even after money. But money often brings confidence, because we don't have to please many people once we have enough money. Interestingly, by being more confident, we can make more money, and yes, money begets money... Happy Dhanteras, Happy Deepawali...Col Pradeep Pendyala anaesthesiologist

Happiest man...??

Can you imagine, how the happiest man looks like...?? Trust me, you can be the happiest man on earth. No need of mind control, compassion and meditation...I can tell you how to be happy, rather, very very happy...as much as you'd start thinking and believing that you're the happiest man on earth. No need to take drugs for that nor to have hallucinations. Start eating everything you love to eat, stop thinking too much and worrying for anything, Keep learning new skills and enjoy in learning those skills...Fake happiness till you actually feel it, always listen to your heart, not your mind. Do what you love the most, If your passion is playing tennis, writing blogs, or teaching students, make time to do it ...and yes, strongly believe that you're good enough all by yourself. And last but not the least, exercise more and smile more...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Nincompoop...??

I always knew that a thin line separates a nincompoop (fool) and a brilliant person. Trust me, a fool can become a hero and vice versa. A fool is one who thinks he is wise because of his intelligence and thinks he is powerful because of his position. Similarly, there's a thin line between bravery and stupidity. And there's a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen as per Winston Churchill. Similarly, arrogance is thinking you are above someone else and confidence is knowing no one is above you. Trust me there are always simple solutions for our complex problems and never forget that keeping things simple is actually being a genius, but certainly not a fool. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Karma...

I believe in Karma...Karma is the result of a person's actions as well as the actions themselves. Thus good karma produces good effect on the person and bad karma would produce bad effect. It is like vicious cycle and virtuous cycle. This effect may be material, moral or emotional... one's karma affects one's happiness and unhappiness...that's for sure. Let us have right view, right resolve, right speech, right conduct and right livelihood. Karma as action and reaction... if we show goodness, we will reap goodness. It is very hard to accept the theory of karma and rebirth which obviously raises numerous questions...such as how, when, and why did the cycle start in the first place ? One of the significant controversies with the karma doctrine is whether it always implies destiny...and yes, karma-rebirth doctrine cannot be proven. Whatever may be the controversy and confusion about Karma, one thing is sure, If you sow evil, you will reap evil in the form of suffering.... and if you sow goodness, you will reap goodness in the form of inner joy. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Living life with real passion...

Doing something which we love, that we don't consider a job is our passion. If we know our real passion, we have discovered our purpose of living. If you are still confused about your real passion try to remember what you loved doing as a child...that's your real passion. Let us not presume that our passion should be our job. But if it is so, we should call ourselves very lucky. Passion generally means something we love to do. Passion is an emotion that comes from within us. It is our enthusiasm, our zeal, our drive and our motivation. Our passion can be anything that simultaneously challenges us, intrigues us and motivates us. Passion is the energy that keeps us going, that keeps us filled with meaning, and of course happiness, excitement, and anticipation. Let us separate our hobbies from our passions ...
Let us identify our values... live our beliefs and follow the joy of living life with our real passion. Col Pendyala Pradeep Anaesthesiologist.

Look young...

Trust me, when we are happy, fun-loving and open to new ideas, our mind and body stays youthful. Complaining and focusing on the negative thoughts might age us faster. Laughter is definitely good for our health, but if we smile a lot and laugh a lot, we are perceived to be younger than we actually are. Taking good care of our health and grooming always help our confidence level. Staying active keeps our joints mobile and our hearts working with the added oxygen of exercise. Those who don't drink, don't smoke, eat healthy nutritious foods stay younger much longer than those who do the opposite. Society is obsessed with youth but they don't want to do anything to be youthful for long. I often see people trying too hard to look young by wearing funny clothes which don't suit them. Age is definitely an evolving process but we can easily postpone ageing by being regular at our gym, more conscious of what we eat and by avoiding smoking and drinking altogether. Now please go to the gym regularly and do some exercise regularly and put on your best fitting jeans and a matching tee shirt. Check your posture and walk elegantly and wear your best smile all the time. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Hungry Kya...??

Reading is one of the most powerful habits that can change our life for better. As far as I know, all the happy and successful people were ardent readers. I do love people who keep themselves hungry for success and happiness. Frankly, success is a journey not a destination. Success and happiness are bound to come when we put sincere efforts. I did mention that we need to be hungry for success and happiness...wouldn't you like to know what's being hungry for success and happiness. Being hungry means that we need to be aggressively ambitious or competitive. Perhaps, it originates from a need to overcome past defeats or it is because our desire to succeed and happiness is so great. We need to remind ourselves of our purpose everyday. We must write down our ideal lifestyle and what the perfect life looks like for us and put a lot of time into our purpose, goals, and the things that motivate us. Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals...and yes, attaining wealth, prosperity and fame. Hope you are hungry ...I love Upma...dear Miss Anupma...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

A must watch....

You can save a Life...

The 108 Emergency Ambulance Service is a 24x7 service, which anyone can avail by dialing the number 108 on their phone during any medical emergency.
23rd October 2018 was declared as Restart a Heart Day by Indian Resuscitation Council which was an initiative of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists. Thousands of people across India were imparted training in Compression Only Life Support (COLS) in one day across India to celebrate the World Start A Heart Day today. The main
activity of this was to teach effective chest compression which should be performed continuously till help arrives if you witness a cardiac arrest. If the rescuer is alone, then he should activate the emergency medical system or ambulance services himself for early transfer of the victim for definitive treatment. The rate of chest compression should be 120/min and compression depth should be at least 5 cm but not more than 6 cm. The rescuer should allow complete chest recoil between compression without lifting hands from the chest but should not lean on the victim's chest. There should be minimum interruptions during chest compression. However, compression-only CPR ( Cardio pulmonary resuscitation ) may not be effective in cardiac arrest following drowning, trauma and asphyxia. Traditional CPR may improve the survival in such a case. Similarly, in paediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, where the primary cause is usually of respiratory origin, traditional CPR may be beneficial. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Jack of all trades...

Since my childhood I was told about the derogatory saying Jack of all trades, master of none.... It implies that by trying to learn too many things, you end up learning none. But I was wrong...rather, all the people who told me about that saying were wrong...definitely wrong. In the year 1994, I met Col Anju Manchanda as my Commanding Officer at 150 General Hospital in Jammu & Kashmir. She was the one who changed the entire meaning of that saying and also my subsequent life thereafter. She told me in clear terms that we can be Jack of all trades and master of some. That was the turning point in my life. Although, I was nearing 40 then and people believe strongly that you can't change your personality after 40, but I could in my case. Some people don't embrace new things, because they fear change. But I could change myself completely after that. I started playing Volleyball regularly with army personnel and later started playing regularly tennis at the army clubs and also learning simultaneously swimming and diving. I started participating in all cultural activities and started compering events which I never did earlier. Spent many hours listening to All India Radio and never missed listening to the news in all sixteen languages on All India Radio. That really helped me in compering my shows in different languages which proved to be instantaneous hit. Meanwhile, I could win Agra open singing competition in 1996 which was a stepping stone towards my future singing career. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

If God is really God...

Train runs over people celebrating Dussehra near Amritsar...and hundreds of innocents die...absolute slaughter of the Innocents...my simple question...If God is really God, then He could have stopped it..ain't it...??
I have myself witnessed thousands of innocents dying in Gujarat Earthquake in 2001 where the death toll eventually rose to 25,000. I was myself officer in charge of the Operation Theatre at Bhachau, the epicenter of the earthquake, located 60 Kms from Bhuj ...fo
r a record three months where I saw hundreds of children found dead under the debris of earthquake. I know of few incidents where the pilgrims died after visiting Tirumala Temple...Recently, a tragedy took place at Kapila Theertham where 7 teenagers who went for swimming were drowned near Tirumala. My simple question, why God didn't save them...??
And my last question, if the law of Karma really exists, then why do the innocents suffer...???
BTW, I am not an atheist...but I am a strong believer of God...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.
PS. The picture attached shows me briefing Shri George Fernandes, the then Defence Minister at Bhachau Operation Theatre during Gujarat Earthquake in 2001.

Let's fight Age...

We can't change our date of birth...we can't stop ageing...but yes, we can slow down aging but again we can't halt ageing entirely. We can easily stop premature aging by stopping smoking, drinking less alcohol, exercise regularly and by eating well balanced diet and yes by sleeping minimum eight hours daily. By avoiding stress or by lessening stress in our life, we can actually turn back the clock and reverse early onset aging. We can't change our age, but we can definitely change the shape of our body and look younger at any age. We can't run from our age, but we can try. Okay, we can't fight age but let's fight those negative attitudes, let's challenge ourselves, and let's keep an open mind to be ever young in our attitude. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist

Born Romantic...??

I am a born romantic... I always believed poetry to be superior to science. Yes I know, romance films are usually targeted to female audience. ..but men are also influenced by romantic movies and I am the best example. A Scottish study suggests that romantic movies create unrealistic expectations in real life. Yes, I know that movies are nothing but escapism but may I know, is there a better way to escape the horrors of this world than a nice romantic film? I must have watched almost all the famous romantic movies of Bollywood, Hollywood and Tollywood...not once, but many times. Let me explain why do we love romantic movies and novels so much...when we see a romantic movie, we are aware of its fictional nature but we definitely become hopeful that somewhere there is still a possibility of happiness. Romance is nothing but hope and possibilities, and hope is the elixir of life, ain't it...?? Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

A lecture...

Last Saturday, I took a class on Anaesthesia for Severe Pre-Eclampsia, and it was by best lecture...reason was simple, I saw few YouTube videos on the same subject prior to my lecture and found my lecture was much better. Interestingly, on the eve of World Anaesthesia Day which is annually celebrated on October 16, on the anniversary of the first use of ether anaesthesia by William T. G. Morton, I would love to write on how to deliver a lecture effectively. The classroom lecture is a special form of communication in which voice, diction, vocabulary, gesture, movement, facial expression, and eye contact do matter a lot. Share your outline with your students and emphasize your objectives and key points in the beginning. Start with a story from your personal experience. Use humour... a joke, but not too often. Have a test or a quiz in between your lecture without offending the knowledge of your students. Creating a welcoming learning environment and making students feel comfortable and important is essential, needless to say, you must know their names and their limitations. I hate teachers using abbreviations too often and expecting the students to know the meaning without explaining the abbreviation. I often attend many conferences where I find the speakers expect you to know the meaning of the abbreviations and he doesn't care to explain the abbreviation. It is like attending a wedding, where an elderly gentleman wants to know whether you have recognized and placed him without introducing himself. Incidentally, you end up spending rest of the wedding trying to figure out who could be that gentleman. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

GenNext...

Today, I had a brief speech in the seminar on Young people and Mental Health in a changing world at the medical college where I work, although, it was organised by Psychiatry Department. World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. My points were widely appreciated by the students. These were my points...
One in four young teenagers in India suffers from depression and India has the highest suicide rate among 10 Asian countries. Depression is a major cause of disability but it is also a highly treatable condition. But social stigma often prevents many patients from speaking out and seeking care.
Let me share with you why we are unable to solve this problem . Year after year, we have seminars, discussions and WHO guidelines but nothing much is happening. As far as I know, people suffering from depression and anxiety are increasing by the day. Let me tell you, why ...?? The reason is very simple we rarely step into the shoes of the teenagers and we rarely try to understand their problems through their eyes.
Frankly, we are dealing with GenNext and we try to solve their problems with our archaic ideas and views on how to deal with depression and anxiety. Our old views may not hold water. There is no single reason why teenagers use drugs or alcohol, as a parent, we must understand these reasons and talk to our kids. BTW, teens can't tolerate being alone, and we rarely spend quality time with our children. And I wanted to say one very important thing to the parents, for God's sake, don't live vicariously through your children, let them have their their own dreams and goals. I know few students, who are pursuing MBBS because their parents want them to become Doctors...although, they themselves wanted to become an Engineer. ..Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Depression...??

"Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self esteem, first make sure you are not, in fact, just surrounded by assholes."
This was neither said by Sigmund Freud nor the award-winning science fiction author William Gibson.
But the statement is hundred percent true...whoever might have said.
World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year..hence I thought, being a doctor, I must dispel few global misconception about depression and low self esteem.
Adolescence and the early years of adulthood are a time of life when many changes occur, for example changing schools, leaving home, and starting university or a new job.Young people are particularly vulnerable to mental distress and illness.
Taking a day off from work to care for your mental health could be instrumental in helping you feel at your best. Even for people who are not suffering from clinical levels of depression and anxiety, the occasional mental health day might still be valuable.
Psychological factors that may contribute to mental illness include... severe psychological trauma suffered as a child, such as emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. Several factors in life can have an impact on our mental health including ... business, sexuality, sleep disorders and alcohol and other drug use. Interestingly, I strongly believe, poor physical health can affect self-esteem and people's ability to meet their goals, which leads to unhappiness or even depression.
