Do we need books now...??

I have never bought a book, trust me
During childhood, my textbooks were handed down from my seniors in the school or my friendly neighbors.
Fiction books mostly Hindi I used to borrow and read from Book lending libraries.
Comics reading mostly Phantom and Mandrake used to be read in the classroom again from my friends' collections.
I used to read a lot of Hindi novels especially during my summer vacations invariably spent at Kadma or Bistipur of Jamshedpur at my Buchchinana and Lakshmiakka's place, again courtesy, a Book lending library of kadma market, Tatanagar.
I must have read all the novels of Gulshan Nanda, Col Ranjeet and Ibne safi BA.
Well, college was a bit of challenge, because I had to spend extra time at college library or borrowing books from college library. Well, by that time, I started getting nice notes from senior friends ( mostly girls ) which used to suffice my textbook requirement.
During Matriculation, I was a topper in Hindi of Andhra University, hence, I was offered Hindi scholarship, which I declined as i was also offered National Merit Scholarship for being 21st ranker in the entire University. This had added advantage that the scholarship would continue all through my education unlike Hindi Scholarship which was offered only if I have a subject in my curriculum, which was not possible after admission into a professional college. My scholarship was enough for my pocket money, watching all the Bollywood movies and of course, buying surprise gifts for my parents.
During my MBBS, I mostly followed notes of my seniors ( again girls ) and rarely read any textbooks and cleared all the papers in first attempt with good marks.
Later, when I joined MD Anaesthesia, I used to borrow Anaesthesia books from British Library, MG Road of Bangalore, where I did my MD.
And now, I read all my requirements from the net...and occasionally from RSI club library.
I feel it is better and easier to read from the net rather than reading from textbooks, novels et al, because I can read much faster from the net vis-à-vis a book.

Computer illiterate...

Dear friends, I was a computer illiterate till 2010.
I joined Facebook only in 2010 after a lot of pestering by a surgeon friend who wanted me to happy and cheerful after my mother's demise in Feb 2010 as I was very depressed those days. Today, I know quite a bit about computers. You are about to watch a video clipping which was uploaded a few days ago and watched by many but many of you complained about the blurring and poor quality of video. I am proud to present the better version with excellent video quality and this was done all by myself with nobody's assistance. Have a great weekend dear Friends.

Archna Pant...my friend...

It was February 1972 and I was one among the thousands gathered at Municipal stadium of Vishakhapatnam to listen to Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi our then Prime Minister of India and a central figure of the Indian National Congress . We didn't wait much as the lady came on the dais to deliver her speech as per the schedule. She started her speech in her characteristic voice and style but in chaste Hindi. I wondered, how many people in that huge gathering would understand even a single sentence of her speech in Hindi as I knew there were hardly any Hindi speaking citizens at Vizag those days. But, I was pleasantly surprised, the moment she gave a pause during her long speech which was being delivered ad-lib and impromptu I saw it was being translated by a simple looking person and to my amazement, even better than the original speech withing seconds of it being spoken. I was curious to know, who could be that charismatic person who was translating the purest form of Hindi into purest form of Telugu within seconds. People told me the gentleman's name is P V Narasimha Rao and he is a lawyer, politician and a freedom fighter. Those days, I used to love Priyadarshini as my idol, but after meeting Sri PV Narasimha Rao, I felt, she was nothing compared to PV Narasimha Rao. Incidentally, I met a person on Facebook a few years ago and after meeting her, I felt, Mr PV Narasimha Rao is nothing in front of her and her name is Archna Pant. I know Mr PV Narasimha Rao could speak seventeen languages, but my friend Archna Pant can speak and write three languages Hindi, English and Urdu which nobody can emulate.

Facelift needed for Facebook...??

Dear Friends,
Face book must be proud to have thousands of great writers , poets, great thinkers...
I am sure, you too must be having many such great souls in your friends list...
But have you noticed, when it comes to commenting on any interesting or controversial post, they either reply in smileys/ one word reply/no reply, just a like/ some reply which is tangential to the issue of discussion vis-à-vis the other replies relevant to the status...barring a few exceptions, of course...
I really wonder at their reticence...
I wish, I'm wrong in my observation...

Weird ascetic...

Sometimes, I feel amazed when people talk about stress, peace of mind and cleansing the soul etcetera. I am always amused when people want to take a break from their routine and take sabbatical, leave their busy schedule, Surgeons stop operating for months, people spend a fortune to go abroad and visit rare places, people spend many days and months on pilgrimage etcetera.
I rarely change my schedu
le, my routine, I love giving Anaesthesia, more the merrier. I have never taken any vacation ever and been to rare sites to de-stress myself.
I am more than happy with my life, with my wealth, with my life style.
My love for music and listening to music keeps me immensely happy, watching a couple of movies makes me more than rejuvenated, I rarely pray to God for myself, yes, I do pray to God for the safety of my patients. Playing a bit of Tennis keeps me at the top of the world.
May be, you may not like my present post, may be, you strongly disagree with my life style...but I am like this only...call me ascetic, call me weird...but, I may not change for better or worse...ha ha

Meharbani...

Shukriya dost tumne mujhe ladhna sikhaya
Dil se nukalte khoon ne mujhe jeena sikhaya
Shukra guzaar hun tahe dil se tumhara
Rula rula kar hausle se udhna sikhaya
Ittafaaqan tum na aate meri zindagee mein
toh shayad main kaayar hee rah jata
Meharbaani teri har haal mein ladhna sikhaya...

Fun & Masti...

Just saw a movie Fun aur Masti at our club. I am sure, you might not have heard the name of such movie ever made. Well, it was released in 2007 ...the movie has Hyderabadi Hindi/Urdu language...Hyderabadi ethos and jokes. The character enacted as Gullu was okay...and the guy who played the role of Johnny was good in mimicry ( I wonder, if the mimicry was done by him or some other ghost artist in the background ). I couldn't enjoy the movie much although I live in Hyderabad and the entire movie was about Hyderabad and was shot in Hyderabad.
