Libraries...

Do we still need libraries in this digital age...?? Libraries everywhere are under threat. Who needs a library today, when it is possible to find and read almost any and every book or article that has ever been published by using internet. Libraries are a statutory service and it should be available to everyone....but why do we need it when everything is available on net. Yes, library exhibits positive impact on the academic but at a huge cost and maintenance. Libraries do allow people of any income level or background to access high-quality information and to borrow what they want. Whether we like it or not, library culture is almost dying due to easy availability of information on the net. Hence, new innovative services are being developed, taking advantage of IT advances to enhance people’s experiences of using their libraries in the library building through access to e-books and other online collections. Coconut and worshiping

Breaking of the coconut represents the breaking of ego, which is a prerequisite for the attainment of wisdom. Breaking of the ego results in our mind becoming wiser... and the water within the coconut is the nectar of Knowledge. Hindu Pujas are the act of showing reverence to God, a spirit, or another aspect of the divine through invocations, prayers, songs/ bhajans and rituals. An essential part of puja is making a spiritual connection with the divine. Offering flowers is an important part of worship as different Gods & goddesses are known to love certain flowers. ... Some consider offering of flowers to be a prayer that the deity grant us good health, wealth & prosperity. It is natural tendency to keep the atmosphere of the place of worship welcoming with flowers.Hindu worship is primarily an individual act rather than a communal one, as it involves making personal offerings to the deity. Worshipers usually repeat the names of their favorite Gods and Goddesses, and repeat mantras. Happy Ganesh Chaturthi...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Persona

Persona means the way you behave, talk, etc., with other people that causes them to see you as a particular kind of person. Personality is the public personality that people display to those around them and it is influenced by heredity and at the same time by the surrounding conditions. There is subtle difference between the two...persona and personality. The role that one assumes or displays in public or society; one's public image or personality, as distinguished from the inner self. Someone's personality is the specific set of qualities and interests that make him or her unique and unlike others. Your persona is your external layer and your personality is your inner layer. Bear in mind that persona is the Latin for an actor's mask...and your personality is your inner and real self...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Udhta Hyderabad

I live in Secunderabad and naturally, I love twin cities Hyderabad-Secunderabad. I don't want Hyderabad to be ever called Udhta Hyderabad in future...I'm sure, you all know about Udhta Punjab. Drugs have been around in Hyderabad since the IT boom in 2000 but the recent India Today's investigation decodes the drug network in Hyderabad, and also the role of some celebrities. Substances commonly abused by students in college include: Marijuana, prescription medications including stimulants, central nervous system depressants, Ketamine, narcotics, over-the-counter drugs, cocaine, heroin and ecstasy. Vast majority of substance-related problems start on college campuses. Dubbed as the study drug, Adderall and other stimulants are increasing in popularity among college students who are facing pressure to meet their academic requirements and unemployment. College students have greater access to drugs today than they've had in the past. Let us save our Hyderabad from Drug menace and from becoming Udhta Hyderabad. Eye reading...

Let's talk about eye reading. Shakespeare rightly wrote that the eyes are the window to your soul...almost everything can be read by looking at the eyes. Moreover, you can gather a whole lot of intimate details about a person just by looking at them. If you want to show you're interested in what someone has to say, make eye contact often, If you want to Improve your lie-spotting abilities to up to 90% accuracy...look at the eyes...needless to say, if you want to decode hidden emotions...look at the eyes. Frankly, you don't have to say a word, your eyes have already told me everything, because eyes tell everything mouth doesn't. Although, people say that face is the mirror of the mind, I feel, face can hide few things, but the eyes confess the secrets of the heart. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Reading people...

Since my MBBS days, I used to read people. Since then, I knew too very well that body language gives away everything. My love for reading human behaviour and body language was at times affecting my studies. At times, I used to be more interested in body movements and facial expression of the lecturers than the actual lectures in the class. People observation actually helped me to develop my mimicry skills much later in life. Keenly observing people body movements, face expressions, way of speaking and thinking always fascinated me. I always loved reading between the lines and analyzing people behaviour. People constantly unwittingly tell many things about who they are and what they actually think by what they write and what they speak. This can give clue to interesting facts about the person, like what they might want to hide and what they actually express. Looking for patterns and understanding human behaviour is definitely a good way to understand humanity at large. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Personality...

Personality development has always interested me at every stage of my life. I must have read few books on personality development. Only this definition satisfied me... it is nothing but the act of moving from an inert and disinterested state of existence to a zealous, motivated and joyous living one. It’s is the act of celebrating your uniqueness without hesitations and boundaries, but only with more enthusiasm and liveliness. Almost all the books I read dealt with confidence, career, motivation, communication skills, strength and weaknesses, self understanding, leadership, optimism, passion and attitude and assertiveness. Frankly, I give maximum importance to attitude and assertiveness in personality development. These books usually forget mentioning about smart time management, fitness, empathy, creativity and stress management. I strongly believe that reading books may not help much in developing a good personality ...it should come from within and naturally...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

What do you want to do...??

What do you want to do after retirement ? Do you enjoy singing, if so then I would encourage you to sing and record as many songs as possible after retirement. If you love movies like I do, consider buying a house or apartment next to a club or a multiplex nearby where you can grow old watching your favourite movies.Take the time to show your friends and relatives you love that you care about them... spend some time with them and make up for the lost time when you were busy at work and didn't have enough time for them. This is the moment to try things you always wanted to do. If you’ve always enjoyed the company of students, you might really love being a teacher after retirement like I do being a teacher of post graduate students in Anaesthesiology. If painting, drawing and crafts are your thing, you would be surprised to know that your city is full of academies and workshops that offer classes. Finding an animal companion is definitely less complicated than dating humans, try it, adopt a dog. Challenge your brain, learn something new that’s seriously hard...guitar or playing a keyboard. And lastly, learn a foreign language which can delay the onset of dementia. Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Need of the hour...

Passion for the job, enthusiasm and sense of purpose is the need of the hour. Patience and perseverance even when the results are not visible should be the attitude. Perseverance is not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard. Perseverance is an attitude of pursuing one idea, discipline, ideal. Talent is helpful but perseverance definitely achieves success. You must be wondering, what I am trying to convey. India would be 70 in another one week. Let us make it more powerful and successful by our passion for the job we're doing right now with our enthusiasm and sense of purpose and of course, perseverance...Col Pendyala Pradeep.Anaesthesiologist.

Movie therapy...

I am a movie buff in true sense...I love movies, I know a lot about movies, I'm a movie fan, movie enthusiast and a movie expert. In fact, I bought a house next to our club so that I can grow old watching movies, since our club provides three new movies a week. I have been watching movies regularly since my childhood and now I am above sixty. Movies offer us a ticket to escape from life's trials and tribulations. We need some kind of therapy in our lives and movies offer that, and at a much lesser cost compared to any type of therapy. We need role models in our lives for inspiration. Real people do inspire us but movies offer a short cut and a more intimate look at our hero's life. As we walk out of the movie hall, we feel rejuvenated and de-stressed. They have a huge impact on moulding our personality, character and behaviour. We are inspired by stories of survival and perseverance in movies just like a wonderful novel. When nothing works, try movie therapy...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist

Gossip

Ladies are best source of gossip...but men are bigger gossips than women, according to new research. Earlier, we used to have langar news ...but now, we have loads of news and gossip from Whatsapp and Facebook. Interestingly, people gossip in order to hurt those whose popularity, talents, or lifestyle they envy. And yes, people who don't feel good about themselves temporarily feel better when they judge others negatively. Gossip builds social bonds because shared dislikes create stronger bonds than shared positives. After saying bad things, persons feel more inclined to share their own secrets. And it's a vicious cycle. When people can't generate interesting discussions based on knowledge or ideas, gossip can rouse people's interest. But gossip definitely brings people together and allows to find a common ground. People gossip for many reasons... it makes them feel powerful and prove to others that they've the inside information which nobody knows. You may call it bad and ugly...but gossip is a standard currency of human connection....Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.

Desires...

Many people are driven by their desires and many continue to fulfill their endless desires till their last breath....I am no exception. Desires are endless.... It is like the thirst which never gets quenched by drinking salt water, it rather gets increased. Frankly, although we have everything, we still desire for more...that's life. I think, hunger, thirst and desire are basic essentials for living. I think, a certain amount of desire is essential to make our life a bit more interesting...Desire per se is not bad but if it increases in quantity to unmanageable levels, it can destroy us....otherwise, it's most welcome. Let's desire constructively ....let's desire to make our lives and others lives a little better before we take our last breath....Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.
