Indian Weddings...

Let me share with you, why I love Indian weddings...it starts with worship of Lord Ganesha, remover of all obstacles followed by worship of Gauri, who represents fertility and ideal marriage to Shiva, their relationship is considered to have strongest bond between a wife and a husband. The priest recites shlokas from Vedas and the couple is asked to place a paste made from cumin seeds and jaggery on each other which conveys that the relationship of married couple is inseparable. Traditional Hindu wedding is deeply meaningful and has symbolic combination of rituals and traditions. I love the idea of Agni Sakshi...Agnideva, the fire God is evoked to witness the proceedings. Hindu marriage ceremony has an event where bridegroom shows Arundhati nakshatra ( star ) to his wife. Arundhati loved and served her husband Vasishtha with all her heart. And yes, I love the tradition of Saptapadi...the bride and the groom take seven steps together symbolizing the beginning of their journey with 7 vows of togetherness besides being the best friends and eternal partners.
