This actually happened during 1982-83. I was sent on temporary duty to DRDL Hyderabad to work as RMO from Military Hospital Secunderabad immediately after my joining Army Medical Corps. I was given a furnished room in the officers mess of DRDL. Incidentally, there were only two special rooms on the first floor of the officers mess...the other room was occupied by the Director of DRDL, Dr Abdul Kalam. I was also made officiating RMO of DMRL and DRDO by default. On every evenings, at 6:30 pm, there used to be English pop songs aired by Hyderabad Radio which I never missed. On one fine evening, I was listening to some English number at full volume of my philips philleta radio and was also dancing in my room. There's a small knock at the door and when I opened, it was Dr Abdul Kalam himself standing at my door. He requested me with his soft voice, if I can turn down my volume. He could have easily sent his subordinate officer to warn me but here's a man ...the director, who is so simple and humble. I knew immediately that he can't be an ordinary person. Dr Abdul Kalam became the president of india in 2002.
