For those people who are in a position to have a pet into their lives, the benefits and delight of pet ownership are considerable. Loneliness can become an unwelcome companion as we age and can lead to depression as well as physical problems. Pets require attention and dedication, but those are small prices to pay for the amount of physical and mental benefits they bring into our lives. Studies have shown that simply petting a dog can decrease our heart rate and blood pressure, which lowers overall stress. Owning a pet can ward off feelings of isolation when the pet acts as a loving and wonderful companion. Trust me, having a pet is not less than having a fortune. A dog's need for walks and exercise helps the owners get out of the house and often leads to friendly interactions with other dog owners. Both activities help decrease feelings of isolation, which can lessen depression. Although I'm very allergic to the fur of dogs, it has never stopped me from cuddling my furry friends and I'm sure there are many others who would do the same. Col Pradeep Pendyala.
