There’s so much going on Facebook and Whatsapp that possibly 90 percent of you may not read my present post. According to scientists, the age of smartphones has left humans with a very short attention span.Your attention span is now so short that you won’t finish this post. It is easy to see why some people think that smartphones are turning us into zombies when we see people walking around aimlessly, eyes glued to their mobile phones. Recent Microsoft study revealed that we now have an attention span of just eight seconds....amazing...!! And yes, right now, there are more mobile internet users than desktop/laptop users. There’s just so much overload of information and so little time. Research released earlier this year showed that smartphones were making us less able to think independently as we rely on looking up for information that we don't know from Google and other similar search engines, rather than thinking for ourselves. Previous research had shown that people who spend excessive amounts of time online were less able to focus on specific tasks. However, it is not clear whether internet and phone usage is the actual cause of our poor focus and attention. This topic needs further research and further validation...keep reading my posts dear friends...I will update you soon on this interesting topic...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.
