May the best Man/ Woman Win...!!

Following Mukesh Ambani's Jio , all data service providers have started giving free voice calls and data at much reduced rates...airtel, vodafone, Bsnl and Idea had an Idea which they never had earlier. Adopting the same strategy, united opposition desperately announced former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar as their presidential candidate to counter BJP’s presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind and turned the presidential election into Dalit Vs Dalit contest. Meira Kumar is a good candidate, but they chose her not for her qualifications and qualities, but for her caste. Present India is looking much beyond caste. Had the Opposition thought of going beyond this Dalit factor, it might have been better. The BJP’s choice of Kovind comes at a time when Dalit groups have protested in Uttar Pradesh against the Yogi Adityanath government and raised their voice about the increasing atrocities against Dalits by upper castes and cow vigilantes. Selecting Kovind should help the BJP’s efforts at consolidating its Dalit support base in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.The choice of Kalam as candidate for President by the ruling NDA in 2002 was a real masterstroke. It had fragmented opposition unity. But Kovind is not Kalaam. Though the NDA candidate has an edge in the presidential election, the main opposition party along with the Left Front and TMC is definitely going to give a tough fight in this presidential election...may the best man ( woman ) win...Col Pendyala Pradeep, Anaesthesiologist.
